choosing a content distribution license

Posted on 10 February 2012 By antipaucity 1 Comment on choosing a content distribution license

With the plethora of various licenses available for various types of content (writing, music, software, etc), it’s a highly daunting process to choose which one a creator or publisher wants to use.

Connexions uses the Creative Commons Attribution License (v3.0). Some projects use the MIT or BSD license formats, others are public domain, some are [effectively] unlicensed. Open Source licenses abound.

How does a body go through the process of choosing and sticking-to a license for published work? There doesn’t seem to be a good comparison of the features/benefits/protections for the lay person to parse – the Wikipedia article seems aimed at legal types.

What resources are available to the average Joe (or Warren) – like me?
